Youth Contract help for 18-24 olds plus extension of Work Club to include 18 and 19 olds.

Youth Contract

The Youth Contract was  launched on 2nd April and comprises of a package of support to help young unemployed people aged 18 – 24 to prepare for work and find a job.

The Jobcentre Plus adviser  works with young people to identify the best opportunity from a range of support that is available, to better prepare them for work, giving them a better chance to find and take up sustained employment.

18 – 24 year olds will receive

  • a weekly contact from day one of their JSA claim
  • an opportunity to be referred for a careers interview with the National Careers Service within the first 3 months of their claim
  • a weekly face to face meeting from month 5 of their claim
  • self marketing literature to advise employers of the Wage Incentive of up to £2,275 if they are on the Work Programme, for jobs expected to last at least 26 weeks
  • Work Experience information leaflets
  • Apprenticeship Grants for Employers to support new apprenticeship vacancies for 16-24 year olds and encourage more employers to offer Apprenticeships.

Work Experience is still proving to be particularly successful in Lancashire, further details from JCP.

The Work Club in response to the Youth Contract measures will be dropping its age eligibility for the Club  to 18 years, this will enable more unemployed individuals to access our services alongside the Youth Contract and in particular access Careers Guidance and employability/Job Search  Services on a weekly basis .
